Review: Star Trek Into Darkness
May 24, 2013 By Court Leave a Comment
To Infinity...and Beyond! So starts the brand new Star Trek film of the rebooted/divergent time-line Trek franchise. Ok, not really, instead it starts a lot like an Indiana Jones flick with Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) running the fuck away from a group of (awesome-looking) natives (or aliens in this case). ALSO there’s a volcano going off and only Spock (Zachary Quinto) can stop it! You have questions about why and how? Who cares? It looks shiny and colourful and it’s fun. I enjoyed it, but I sure as heckington don’t respect it! [*MILD SPOILERS … [Continue Reading...]

The Bioscopist Podcast #19 – Star Trek, Mud & Special Effects Techniques
May 21, 2013 By Stu Holmes Leave a Comment
All of us here at the Bioscopist finally managed to go see a film together and that film was Mud. We totally enjoyed the hell out of it as two of our favourite actors Matthew McConaughey and, future Man of Steel villain, Michael Shannon brought their A-games to this. The other film we managed to … [Continue Reading...]

The Bioscopist Podcast #18 – The Apocalyptic Films Episode
May 9, 2013 By Stu Holmes Leave a Comment
Hey boys and girls, it's the APOCALYPSE!......or maybe it's 2Pacalypse Now...I'm not 100% sure on that. Either way, Court thought it would be a good idea to do an apocalyptic themed podcast as he happened to watch a few post-apocalyptic films over the last couple of weeks, which is not that … [Continue Reading...]

The Bioscopist Podcast #17 – Miami Connection, Stand-up comedy in Bristol, Michael Bay apology
April 26, 2013 By Stu Holmes Leave a Comment
Sorry for the late posting of this weeks episode, but it's been a hectic week. I've not added a time stamp for this episode, but broadly speaking we touched on the hilarious and sonically pleasing Miami Connection. A B-Movie with some real charm and great soundtrack. Me and Court talk about a good … [Continue Reading...]

Michael Bay Apologizes for Armageddon
April 22, 2013 By Stu Holmes Leave a Comment
I have a feeling Michael Bay may have decided to quit cocaine this week as he seems to be going down the familiar "recovering addict" route of making up for past mistakes. Of course I'm just speculating here, but why don't you try and watch Transformers and tell me that's not coming from a … [Continue Reading...]

Funny or Die Releases the First STEVE JOBS Biopic
April 22, 2013 By Stu Holmes Leave a Comment
I was planning on going to the Sundance London Film Festival this week, but the lineup was pretty weak. A lot of the big hitters from Colorado were unfortunately left out, thereby making it hard to justify the expense of travelling all the way to London. I was hoping to see Ashton Kutcher's … [Continue Reading...]

Review: The Place Beyond the Pines
April 14, 2013 By Stu Holmes 2 Comments
After seeing the first trailer and image stills for The Place Beyond the Pines, there was a general consensus amongst critics and Baby Goose naysayers that this was just 'Drive on a motorcycle'. Which on the surface of what had been presented, didn't seem too distant a possibility. All the cues from … [Continue Reading...]

REVIEW: Olympus has Fallen
April 12, 2013 By fuzzycomic 1 Comment
Like Die Hard on crack. I think that sums up the film quite well. The premise of the film is a common theme of action thrillers involving some bastard terrorist group trying to destroy *insert American icon here*, which for the case of Olympus has fallen is American freedom by destroying its nukes … [Continue Reading...]

Review: Spring Breakers
April 8, 2013 By Stu Holmes 2 Comments
I can’t say Harmony Korine’s surname without breaking up the syllables and delivering it in a southern drawl, like I’m a hill-billy greeting an out-of-towner. (*Whaa yaw say yaaw name be…ko-reeen?) Which makes it seem all too fitting that Korine has made Spring Breakers, a neon-lit youthful … [Continue Reading...]
