The plot behind Ridley Scott's Prometheus has been carefully guarded and only drips and drabs of what to expect have been leaked. In that time we've heard the film will be a loosely based prequel to the 1979 film Alien, also directed by Scott and that the trailer gives a hint to the location and the re-appearance of the 'Space Jockey' from the original Alien film. The new Avengers Trailer just dropped today, although I'm informed the name of the film has been changed in the UK, so not to be confused with the 60's TV show 'The Avengers', to the more catchy "Marvel Avengers Assemble". Last nights Oscars went pretty much to plan...no upsets, no dramas and the french pretty much took it all. I was however hoping that Viola Davis would take the Best Actress award, but alas the Academy chose to complete Meryl Streep's bookend set instead. In any other year Clooney would have won the Best Actor award, but didn't stand a chance with the unstoppable momentum of The Artist's Jean Durjardin. Viola Davis is one of those actors who keeps turning up in bit parts of major movies with a brief supporting role, but ends up over shadowing her, more established, co-stars with superb performances. Well it came as no surprise today, when the LA Times reported on the demographics that make up the Academy, who vote on all the awards given at the Oscars, is made up of mostly white old men...see above. Just saw this interesting video discussing the Bechdal Test, which applies a set of simple rules to gauge the gender bias of a film. The rules are as follows: The film must have at least two woman in it. Who talk to each other About something other than a man An additional qualifier could also be added to the list, requiring the woman to have named parts. Not surprisingly, many films fail this test. SOUNDTRACKING #2 – DRIVE

Drive's 2011 soundtrack is arguable the best of the year, regardless of the fact that it 'borrowed' a few tracks form Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's 2010 soundtrack for The Social Network. The film is peppered with enough synth to make you feel like you accidentally rented a Beta Max from the Blockbusters down the road.
