THE DICTATOR TRAILER #2

SACHA BARON COHEN - THE DICTATOR

Sacha Baron Cohen is back with an entirely new creation, The Dictator - unlike Borat, Bruno and Ali G, who all originated from Da Ali G Show. Cohen plays the Admiral General Aladeen, of fictional Middle Eastern country of the Republic of Wadiya,  who risks his life to ensure that democracy will never come to the country he so lovingly oppresses. The film is loosely based on the ghost written novel by a former dictator - Iraq's Saddam Hussein, called Zabibah and the King. Hussein's novel had … [Read more...]

APPARENTLY FILMS CAN RAPE PEOPLE NOW

artist

In the last couple of months there's been several people, in Hollywood, claiming to be "raped" by one thing or another. And they're not referring to actual rape either. The series of "rapes" began with Kim Novak, who decided it was a matter of urgency to tell the world that she had been raped by the film The Artist. Taking out a full page ad in, the established Hollywood trade magazine, Variety that accused the makers of The Artist for re-using Bernard Herrmann's score from Vertigo, resulting … [Read more...]

REVIEW: 21 JUMP STREET

jumpst

Re-blogged from my post in Bristol's Inter:Mission... This month has been pretty slim pickings, with the exception of John Carter, in regards to what’s showing at the cinemas right now. There’s always that lull which occurs 1 month on either side of the Oscars, but then I remember that Spring, which has become the season for comedy, is around the corner. One of the big hitters is 21 Jump Street, a loosely based film remake of the classic 80′s TV show that helped launch the career of … [Read more...]

STAR WARS AND THE ‘NOT SO’ EPIC SABRE FIGHT

star-wars-episode-i-light-saber-fight-375301009b29443d

If you are one of the many star wars fans who was disappointed by the release of The Phantom Menace, but still thought it's saving grace was it's epic sabre battle - think again. A French editing geek, put together this great video analysis of the fight, showing the true terribleness of it, by picking it  apart scene by scene. Sit back and laugh at the past you who thought this was great... http://youtu.be/J0mUVY9fLlw … [Read more...]

CLINT & BORAT: NOT SO FAR APART

clinteastwood14iibi6syefo1024x768

The news that Clint Eastwood is to direct the fourth incarnation of A Star is Born is certainly intriguing. On one level, he looks like he’d be directing Beyoncé Knowles in the Judy Garland role, which is clearly terrible casting. On the other, he’d be directing Tom Cruise in the addled, Svengali-esque James Mason role, which is clearly one of the most inspired matching of life to a role, until you begin to wonder why Katie Holmes hasn’t been tapped up to play the Vicki Lester … [Read more...]

Prometheus_movie_aboard-ship

FOR THE LATEST INTERNATIONAL TRAILER CLICK HERE ---------------------------------------------------------------- In most circumstances I would be bored of saying this, but following the "trailer for the trailer" last week, we now have a new Prometheus trailer to reveal just a little more information about the plot. This is the first trailer to feature actual dialogue, although brief, and reveals that Idris Elba (The Wire's Stringer Bell) is the captain of the ship Prometheus. We also … [Read more...]

REVIEW: JOHN CARTER

john carter of mars - disney

Re-blogged my post from Bristol's Inter:Mission... I don’t know about you, but when I saw the 30 second spot on TV advertising John Carter, it immediately reminded me of both The Phantom Menace and the recent flop Conan the Barbarian. Two films you really don’t want to remind people of when promoting your own, especially as the result was that every negative thing about those two films clouded my perception and suggested that John Carter would be a waste of my time. I figured that … [Read more...]

BURNING BRIGHTLY AND BRIEFLY…SOME OF THE DIRECTORS TO PEAK TOO SOON

R

Almost three years after The Box failed to grasp film-goers, Richard Kelly returns with Corpus Christie, with Edgar Ramirez set to star as an Iraq veteran who develops a relationship with a Svengali-like Texan businessman. Of course, it’s easy to be cynical about this sort of set-up, but it’s hard to dismiss a strong hunch that the relationship is going to cause some problems along the way. Judging by his past output, it’s likely to be closer to Apt Pupil than Goodnight Mister … [Read more...]

ORIGINAL JOHN CARTER OF MARS ANIMATION CONCEPT FROM 1936

Screen shot 2012-03-12 at 17.50.43

It's taken exactly one hundred years for Edgar Rice Burroughs, epic martian adventure, John Carter to be adapted for film. The first attempt of the series began in 1931 with Looney Tunes director Bob Clampett. Clampett approached Burroughs with the idea of adapting A Princess of Mars into a feature-length animated film. Burroughs was receptive to the idea, due to the obvious limitations a live action film would incur. So work began on a six minute proof of concept, which was finally completed in … [Read more...]

CINEMETRICS – BEAUTIFUL MOVIE MATH

Screen shot 2012-03-10 at 16.59.41

I stumbled across this interesting info-graphics style graduation project titled Cinemetrics, created by Frederic Brodbeck while attending the Royal Academy of Arts. A cinemetric is essentially a fingerprint or signature which can illustrate various characteristics of a movie, making it easy to then compare and contrast one with the other. Brodbeck's software produces the cinemetric by using information gathered from a film's DVD related to the editing structure, a scene's colour palette, … [Read more...]

A MUTE EDDIE MURPHY IS SURPRISINGLY NOT THAT FUNNY

1000 WORDS

Apparently nobody liked the new Eddie Murphy film A Thousand Words. Rotten Tomatoes, which scored the film, gave it a miserable 0% fresh rating, joining the likes of Bucky Larson and Jaws 4 in contention for worst movie. The films premise sees Jack McCall (Murphy) learn the meaningful lesson of wisely choosing his words after deceitfully misleading a vengeful guru on a book deal. The guru places a curse on Jack, restricting him to a thousand words before death. Who in their right minds would … [Read more...]

NIC CAGE’S COMIC BOOK THEFT – THE MOVIE

superman-first-comic-action-PICON

A script, written by, Reno 911 creators, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon has just been sold to major Hollywood studio, Lionsgate. Based on the real-life theft of Nicolas Cage's rare and pricy, 1938 Action Comics #1, which was famous for marking the debut of Superman. Cage, being a HUGE Superman geek, basically lost his shit right away and has never been the same since. The comic turned up 11 years later, in 2011, inside an auctioned storage locker, located in the San Fernando Valley. The … [Read more...]
