It has been reported that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting a divorce. That’s right, Katie is now free from the clutches of Scientology…..and Tom Cruise. Normally this type of gossip rag material is not my regular fare at the Bioscopist, but as you may have noticed both Katie and I share the same surname, so I feel obligated to take the side of my (so very distant) relative in matters of the heart. But seriously I’m not a huge fan of Scientology, so I’m glad she’s not wasted all her money becoming an OT Level III….that Xenu guy is just crazy.

It wasn’t that long ago that Tom Cruise got a private screening of Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master which tells the story of a religious leader, bearing a striking resemblance to Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard. Anderson wanted to lessen the impact of the film with the Scientology community, well known for using extreme measures when dealing with negative press, so he invited his friend Cruise to preview it. Tom was not too pleased with the film, but whether the two remain friends is unknown. Perhaps the seeds of doubt were planted into Katie’s mind, assuming she attended the screening with Tom as well. And this divorce a month later may be the direct result.
