Nick Offerman clearly knows how to work a room. He’s roped in the help of his NBC alumni, Community’s Alison Brie, and wife Megan Mullally to help promote his indie film Somebody Up There Likes Me, by doing what any self-respecting indie director does – hit a monster bong with your pals. So he’s basically got all demographics covered.
Thirty-five years in the life of Max (Keith Poulson), his best friend Sal (Nick Offerman) and a woman they both adore, Lyla (Jess Weixler). The trio stumble through mandatory but seemingly unfulfilling entanglements, at weddings, funerals, hospitals, eateries, divorce courts and the tool shed. A deadpan fable about time sneaking up on and swerving right around us.
The film was a huge success at this years SXSW festival in Austin and has recently been picked up by Tribeca Film, who will only distribute the film after awards season in spring 2013. So it’s not being released for some time yet, but in a competitive indie film circuit you take all the good and bad PR available, to get your film noticed. So spoiler alert, Alison Brie isn’t even in the film – but lets be honest when a stoned Alison Brie tells you to see a movie, you just have to see it. THE INTERNET LOVES YOU TOO ALISON BRIE….
