Michael Bay Apologizes for Armageddon

armageddon_1998

I have a feeling Michael Bay may have decided to quit cocaine this week as he seems to be going down the familiar "recovering addict" route of making up for past mistakes. Of course I'm just speculating here, but why don't you try and watch Transformers and tell me that's not coming from a coke-fueled mind. Today he just opened up to the Miami Herald in which he apologized for 1998 blockbuster Armageddon. “I will apologize for Armageddon."  He explained: "We had to do the whole movie in … [Read more...]

Funny or Die Releases the First STEVE JOBS Biopic

isteve_long

I was planning on going to the Sundance London Film Festival this week, but the lineup was pretty weak. A lot of the big hitters from Colorado were unfortunately left out, thereby making it hard to justify the expense of travelling all the way to London. I was hoping to see Ashton Kutcher's potential train wreck…I mean passion project, jOBS, about the former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. I figured there would be plenty of shitty acting and laughable seventies inspired fake beards to make a scathing … [Read more...]

REVIEW: Olympus has Fallen

Olympus-Has-Fallen-poster

Like Die Hard on crack. I think that sums up the film quite well. The premise of the film is a common theme of action thrillers involving some bastard terrorist group trying to destroy *insert American icon here*, which for the case of Olympus has fallen is American freedom by destroying its nukes and killing the president… yawn. Actually it’s quite topical, the tension in the Korean peninsular spurs antagonist Rick Yune (Die another day, The Fast and the Furious) whose poker face is … [Read more...]

Trailer: Sofia Coppola’s BLING RING

http://youtu.be/BST3CCnP6uE Based on a series of robberies in Hollywood, around the time Paris Hilton was just getting "famous", a group of teenage good timers decide to rob the rich and famous of all their bling - Fashion, cars and jewellery. The 'Bling Ring' are seen bumpin' & grindin', sipping expensive vodka and flashing their cash all while a thumping track plays in the clubs. Paris Hilton is not mentioned on the IMDB page for the film, but it is highly speculated that she will be … [Read more...]

OSCARS 2013 – Jack Nicholson is still a horndog

Screen Shot 2013-02-25 at 17.44.40

Jack Nicholson has always had a reputation for being a ladies man around town, but don't for a second think that getting old is going to stop him. Last night he had a quick peek and chit chat with Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence while she was in a post-Oscar interview with George Stephanopolous. He tells her she did a beautiful job, and drops that old chestnut, “you look like an old girlfriend of mine”, to which Lawrence quips "Do I look like a NEW girlfriend" after which she has a … [Read more...]

OSCARS 2013 – Best Actress is Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)

Oscar 2013 Jennifer Lawrence accepts the award for best actress

As young as Jennifer Lawrence is (22), she has always shown a wisdom beyond her years in many of her past roles. She was previously nominated for Winters Bone (*which reminds me I still need to see that) and was hotly tipped to win an Oscar in the near future. So it's no surprise she won tonight for her role in David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook. See the film's review here. On her way up though, to collect the award, she managed to trip on the stairs...of course Hugh Jackman ran to … [Read more...]

OSCARS 2013 – Best Actor is Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

Daniel+Day-Lewis+-+Oscars

Well, we can all now officially call Daniel Day-Lewis "The Greatest Actor Alive®" as he has just picked up his third Best Actor Oscar win. His first was for playing cerebral palsy painter, Christy Brown, in My Left Foot. His second Oscar came in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2007 film There Will Be Blood, as Daniel Planview. And now his third is for playing, another real-life individual, in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. It's hard to imagine any other male actor coming close to this achievement. His only … [Read more...]

OSCARS 2013 – Best Supporting Actress is Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables)

Actress+Anne+Hathaway+arrives+at+the+Oscars+

As everyone had already predicted, Anne Hathaway pretty much walked away with Best Supporting Actress. Like many of tonight's awards most things went according to plan, no major upsets and most films came away with something to show for their efforts. I was expecting her to cry hysterically, like her character Les Mis, when she went up on stage, but alas she kept herself pretty composed. Apparently Anne's mom played the same role in the stage musical version on Broadway, so I guess she finally … [Read more...]

The Academy Awards 2013 – All the Oscar Winners

oscars22-620x400

Last night's Oscars were pretty damn good, in terms of spreading the awards love around, although I wasn't too impressed with Seth MacFarlene's hosting abilities. Jokes ranged from snappy to slow, lame to offensive but never quite leaving the impact previous hosts have had. His opening monologue involved a laborious star trek  themed skit with William Shatner, who let's face it nobody wants to see. At one point he weirdly states how everyone probably would've preferred Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, … [Read more...]

OSCARS 2013 – Best Supporting Actor is Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained)

85th Annual Academy Awards - Show

Christoph Waltz cost me a sweet £130 win for Philip Seymour Hoffman, but never mind, betting on the Oscars has it's hazard kids. Waltz won for his portrayal of Dr. King Schultz in Tarantino's Django Unchained. This being the second time the pairing have worked together and Waltz won an Oscar. Waltz definitely is a silver tongued devil. "When I read the script for the first time, I realized that there was something special about this film. I know Quentin, and I read the pages more or less as … [Read more...]

Mark Wahlberg Gets Drunk on BBC

showbiz-mark-wahlberg

We here in the UK are a little bit more relaxed in our talk-show formats than most staple American stalwarts like Leno or Letterman. For some of our American cousins that can be a little jarring, but sometimes it allows for more insightful discussions to take place. On this particular occasion, Mark Wahlberg was on the Graham Norton Show, a BBC Friday night talk show, where he was plugging his new passion project Broken City (Rotten Tomatoes 25%) and was not accustomed to endless free bottles of … [Read more...]
