New Skyfall Bond Theme by Adele

adele bond theme for skyfall

The Broccolis have released the official clip of Adele's Skyfall Bond theme tune, after thousands of bootleg copies made their way to Youtube and vanished, just as quickly. They've given us about a minute of the song with the trailer playing in the background, so nothing too special. The theme was recorded with Adele only last week, so the studio has had to move quickly to get it done in time for the premier on 26th October. After listening to it, I cant say I'm a huge fan. Out of all the … [Read more...]

REVIEW: SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN

rodriguez - SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN

My first introduction to the music of Rodriguez was with a cover of 'Sugar Man' in 1998, by South African Band Just Jinjer. Back then I was still a 15 year old freshman in high school, located in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. And as far as I knew Rodriguez was a big name in the music industry. It never occurred to me to think otherwise - He was American, after all. Sugar man, won't you hurry 'Cos I'm tired of these scenes For a blue coin won't you bring back All … [Read more...]

SOUNDTRACKING #4 – LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE POSTER

Little miss sunshine (Trailer here) is a such a great example of a low budget film that delivered more in the way of heart, sympathy and laughter than any high budget blockbuster could ever dream of. The film was shot on a budget of $8million and grossed just over $100million worldwide, with a schedule lasting only 30 days. There's plenty of great elements to the film with regards to casting, writing and directing, but I'd like to shine a light on the musical element of this great … [Read more...]

SOUNDTRACKING #3 – THE COMPOSITIONS OF PHILIP GLASS

philip-glass

The first time I encountered Philip Glass’s music was in the Academy Award winning documentary The Fog of War. The structure of the film follows the ‘Eleven Lessons from Life’ as experienced by the elder statesman, and former Kennedy-era US Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara. The documentary’s continuous score makes you fell like your watching a summary of the interviews rather than an in-depth feature. The score does however fall silent upon the introduction of each lesson and then … [Read more...]

SOUNDTRACKING #2 – DRIVE

DRIVE

Drive's 2011 soundtrack is arguable the best of the year, regardless of the fact that it 'borrowed' a few tracks form Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's 2010 soundtrack for The Social Network. The film is peppered with enough synth to make you feel like you accidentally rented a Beta Max from the Blockbusters down the road. The 80's motif is carried on through to the opening title sequence and song, by Kavinsky's - "Nightcall" featuring Lovefoxx from Brazilian band CSS. Someone on Spotify has been … [Read more...]

SOUNDTRACKING #1 – PUNCH DRUNK LOVE

punch-drunk-love2

I thought it would be a good idea to occasionally post some music featured in soundtracks that stood-out for me. First up in the series is Jon Brion's song 'Here We Go' from Paul Thomas Anderson's Film 'Punch Drunk Love'. The video is made up of unused film that ended up on the cutting room floor, but works surprisingly well with Brion's main theme for the film. Aside from that, Punch Drunk Love is a good film to watch when you need to remind yourself that Adam Sandler is decent actor on … [Read more...]
