THE HOLLYWOOD DWARF – INTER:MISSION BRISTOL

peter dinklage - dwarf actor in hollywood

Re-blogged from my post in Bristol's Inter:Mission... In Hollywood there are many actors fighting for good roles who can claim to be looking up at a glass ceiling. These actors are all competing with the archaic image of the ‘tall dark and handsome white male’. Life to these actors is like living in a never-ending episode of Mad Men, with Don Draper look-a-likes at every turning. In the late 1950s, Sidney Poitier helped blaze a trail for young African American actors, by approaching the … [Read more...]

THIS GUY WILL BE WOZ IN KUTCHER’S iJOBS BIO FILM

008TWO_Josh_Gad_004

Since I last reported on the Ashton Kutcher’s Steve Jobs biography passion project, working title “Jobs: Get Inspired”, it has now been revealed who will play the Tonto to Kutcher’s Lone Ranger, Robin to his Batman...or in other words Jobs’s partner in crime and Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak. Josh Gad, star of the Trey & Parker (South Park) smash The Book of Mormon, will take on the role. I’m not sure how well he will do, but when you’re attached to a film with such a high … [Read more...]

PROMETHEUS FEATURETTE

Screen shot 2012-04-27 at 17.03.02

The countdown to Prometheus, has really and truly begun now - only one month to go before Ridley Scott’s Sci-fi epic bursts through our glorious IMAX 3D screens and into our popcorn. As if any more teasers or trailers were needed to keep our second pair of alien teeth from salivating, a new featurette is available online, reveals just a few more snippets of the film and a brief interview with Scott about the production. I’m not a huge fan of 3D films, especially ones that apply the … [Read more...]

JOHNNY DEPP EXPLAINS HIS TONTO LOOK FOR THE LONE RANGER

Screen shot 2012-04-23 at 19.36.42

It was almost no surprise, to see Johnny Depp wearing make-up and accessories once again when the first image still from The Lone Ranger was tweeted out by Bruckheimer last month. With Capt. Jack Sparrow, we learned that the main inspiration for the character was Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, and so speculation began that perhaps Deep would once again draw on musical inspiration for his latest role - perhaps Native American fan Jim Morrison of the Doors. I'm starting to think he looks … [Read more...]

DARK KNIGHT RISES TRAILER TO BE SCREENED BEFORE THE AVENGERS

Dark-Knight-Rises-Face-Off

So here is the score. If you want to be one of the first few people to see the Dark Knight Rises full length trailer, you'll need to get your your ass down to the cinema to see The Avengers on April 26th (UK) or May 4th (US). The funny thing is that Dark Knight Rises is a DC comics franchise, while the Avengers is from Marvel. So basically DC has hijacked the publicity of Marvels big summer hit to help it build up buzz for its own release date in the middle of July - smart move DC. I seems … [Read more...]

PROMETHEUS – NEW DAVID 8 COMMERCIAL

Screen shot 2012-04-17 at 23.23.36

Continuing with the ongoing viral marketing campaign for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, 20th Century Fox has released an extensive faux-commercial for the David 8 android. Featuring Michael Fassbender pulling off an incredibly eerie robotic David - Fassbender has stated before that he based the android mannerisms on Olympic high diver, Greg Louganis, who was known for his extreme control of posture with absolute efficiency in movement, which seems to match well with the mindset of an artificial life … [Read more...]

CAIN’S ARCADE – SHORT FILM

Screen shot 2012-04-11 at 21.17.12

I'm so glad I stumbled across this short film - It follows one highly industrious 9-year old boy named Cain, who during his summer holidays at his dad's auto-parts shop, constructs his own arcade - using nothing but cardboard, tape, string and one hell of an imagination. You'll be impressed with some of the contraptions he comes up with and perhaps feel nostalgic for the days when you were young and dreaming up cool designs for tree houses and such. Film-maker Nirvan Mullick happened to … [Read more...]

NOAH WYLE SHOULD PORTRAY STEVE JOBS, NOT KUTCHER!

STEVE JOBS, NOAH WYLE, ASHTON KUTCHER

I don't know about you, but there's only one person I'd cast in a Steve Jobs biopic, and that is Noah Wyle. The actor, best known for playing Dr. John Carter in ER, played Jobs in a previous film, 1999's Pirates of Silicon Valley - and absolutely nailed the performance. Capturing the mannerisms and look of Jobs so well that even Jobs himself felt compelled to acknowledge him in a humorous publicity stunt, for the Mac-world Expo, that same year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIClAanU7Os So … [Read more...]

THE DICTATOR TRAILER #2

SACHA BARON COHEN - THE DICTATOR

Sacha Baron Cohen is back with an entirely new creation, The Dictator - unlike Borat, Bruno and Ali G, who all originated from Da Ali G Show. Cohen plays the Admiral General Aladeen, of fictional Middle Eastern country of the Republic of Wadiya,  who risks his life to ensure that democracy will never come to the country he so lovingly oppresses. The film is loosely based on the ghost written novel by a former dictator - Iraq's Saddam Hussein, called Zabibah and the King. Hussein's novel had … [Read more...]

APPARENTLY FILMS CAN RAPE PEOPLE NOW

artist

In the last couple of months there's been several people, in Hollywood, claiming to be "raped" by one thing or another. And they're not referring to actual rape either. The series of "rapes" began with Kim Novak, who decided it was a matter of urgency to tell the world that she had been raped by the film The Artist. Taking out a full page ad in, the established Hollywood trade magazine, Variety that accused the makers of The Artist for re-using Bernard Herrmann's score from Vertigo, resulting … [Read more...]

STAR WARS AND THE ‘NOT SO’ EPIC SABRE FIGHT

star-wars-episode-i-light-saber-fight-375301009b29443d

If you are one of the many star wars fans who was disappointed by the release of The Phantom Menace, but still thought it's saving grace was it's epic sabre battle - think again. A French editing geek, put together this great video analysis of the fight, showing the true terribleness of it, by picking it  apart scene by scene. Sit back and laugh at the past you who thought this was great... http://youtu.be/J0mUVY9fLlw … [Read more...]

CLINT & BORAT: NOT SO FAR APART

clinteastwood14iibi6syefo1024x768

The news that Clint Eastwood is to direct the fourth incarnation of A Star is Born is certainly intriguing. On one level, he looks like he’d be directing Beyoncé Knowles in the Judy Garland role, which is clearly terrible casting. On the other, he’d be directing Tom Cruise in the addled, Svengali-esque James Mason role, which is clearly one of the most inspired matching of life to a role, until you begin to wonder why Katie Holmes hasn’t been tapped up to play the Vicki Lester … [Read more...]

We've been promised this trailer for ages, it was supposed to be out early this morning, but instead we got a 2nd, trailer for the … [Read more...]

NEW PROMETHEUS TRAILER 2

Prometheus_movie_aboard-ship

FOR THE LATEST INTERNATIONAL TRAILER CLICK HERE ---------------------------------------------------------------- In most circumstances I would be bored of saying this, but following the "trailer for the trailer" last week, we now have a new Prometheus trailer to reveal just a little more information about the plot. This is the first trailer to feature actual dialogue, although brief, and reveals that Idris Elba (The Wire's Stringer Bell) is the captain of the ship Prometheus. We also … [Read more...]
