Review: The Place Beyond the Pines

After seeing the first trailer and image stills for The Place Beyond the Pines, there was a general consensus amongst critics and Baby Goose naysayers that this was just 'Drive on a motorcycle'. Which on the surface of what had been presented, didn't seem too distant a possibility. All the cues from Drive were there: The effortlessly cool Steve Mcqueen-esque loner protagonist who uses his skills in automotive speed for criminal gain, but has a heart of gold hidden beneath a murderous rage. Ryan Gosling gets interviewed by his crazy ex-girlfriend

ryan gosling crazy ex-girlfriend

Baby Goose has got himself into an awkward position this time, when ex-girlfriend Erin Foster runs into him again, while interviewing the star for the Fracture press junket. Obviously this is a parody, but just like the 'overly attached girlfriend' meme, Erin does a superb job of convincing us she's bat-shit crazy. To be honest, I'd be pretty happy having a chick like Erin Foster chasing after me, but then again I don't look like the Goose. http://youtu.be/enwhqzyrdTc [via HelloGiggles] … [Read more...]

Gangster Squad will only hit cinemas on Sept 7th, but with high attendance figures this summer, you can expect to see a plethora of movie trailers at your blockbuster screenings - promoting a barrage of wintery Oscar contenders that may or may not exploit the use of the word 'gritty'. With only a few brief cameos, in the trailer,  can we safely assume that … [Read more...]

Screen shot 2012-04-11 at 21.17.12

I'm so glad I stumbled across this short film - It follows one highly industrious 9-year old boy named Cain, who during his summer holidays at his dad's auto-parts shop, constructs his own arcade - using nothing but cardboard, tape, string and one hell of an imagination. You'll be impressed with some of the contraptions he comes up with and perhaps feel nostalgic for the days when you were young and dreaming up cool designs for tree houses and such. Film-maker Nirvan Mullick happened to … [Read more...]

SOUNDTRACKING #2 – DRIVE

DRIVE

Drive's 2011 soundtrack is arguable the best of the year, regardless of the fact that it 'borrowed' a few tracks form Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's 2010 soundtrack for The Social Network. The film is peppered with enough synth to make you feel like you accidentally rented a Beta Max from the Blockbusters down the road. The 80's motif is carried on through to the opening title sequence and song, by Kavinsky's - "Nightcall" featuring Lovefoxx from Brazilian band CSS. Someone on Spotify has been … [Read more...]
